responding to an emergency
In the event of an emergency, a University official should be notified immediately. No matter how potentially damaging the injury may be to a chapter's activities and its future status with the University, remember that the health and safety of your members and guests is, and should be, more important than a possible University response. Do not risk the health of a member or guest because you think chapter status with the University is more important. It isn't!
Failure to respond quickly and honestly could lead to serious injury, or even death! In situations where a Greek chapter can be held accountable for an injury or problem related to a chapter activity, a more serious University sanction is likely if appropriate University officials are not notified of the emergency immediately.
In the event of an emergency, Greek leaders (and in particular the President, Vice-President and the RA) should do the following:
Call appropriate emergency services by dialing 911 or 9-911 from a campus phone. NEVER attempt to move or transport a victim yourself.
Immediately notify a Residence Dean at 723-0778 (day time phone) or via pager by calling the University operator at 723-2300.
Immediately notify your Office of Student Activities advisor at 723-3542 (day time phone) or via cell phone. Cell phone numbers of OSA staff are made available to Presidents and RA's for use in emergency situations.
In the event that the normally designated University official cannot be reached, it remains your responsibility to contact a University official. If necessary the University Operator (723-2000) can help you locate an official emergency University contact.
A written report should be filed with the OSA within 24 hours of the incident via email.
