Stanford University, and particularly the Dean of Students Office, recognizes that student organizations enrich the social, cultural and educational experiences of students and the larger University community. The Office of Student Activities (OSA) and the Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) work collaboratively together to best serve student organizations and the Stanford community.

The Office of Student Activities (OSA) is a department within the Dean of Students Office that supports student organizations and student-initiated programs. OSA registers voluntary student organizations and maintains descriptions of each organization along with each organization’s constitution and contact information. OSA offers many services to student organizations and can assist groups with all aspects of major event planning, fundraising, party planning and other group-related activities.

The Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) is Stanford’s student association. Every student is a member of the ASSU. The ASSU includes many projects and services, such as the ASSU Legal Counseling Office, the ASSU Speakers Bureau and the ASSU Nominations Commission. The ASSU is governed by the President, Vice President, Undergraduate Senate and Graduate Student Council, who are representatives elected by and for the student body. The ASSU is authorized by the University to act as a bank for student organizations. In addition, the Undergraduate Senate and Graduate Student Council allocate funding for student organizations and student-sponsored events. Stanford Student Enterprises (SSE) is the business subsidiary of the ASSU. SSE operations include the Stanford Store, the Stanford Directory and Sunday Flicks.
